Client: Private Designing a handicap-accessible ramp for a private residence is challenging: not only to be functional and economical, but to also provide an enhancing appearance. Providing ramp access to the house was only feasible at the front door, but the house is located in a visually sensitive neighborhood. Taking advantage of existing landscaping the wood ramp structure was built on top of a walkway of concrete pavers. The ramp slopes from the front door to a 6-foot square landing with steps to one side and a ramp toward the driveway on the other side. The project was constructed in three days by the architect and his 9-year old assistant for her granddaddy. Please click on the images for a larger view |
